Vacancies in Turtle Survival Alliance

Centre for Wildlife Studies with support from Turtle Survival Alliance implements the Indian Turtle Conservation Program, which further conducts several long term turtle conservation projects along five Turtle Priority Areas across India since 2004.

We invite applications from dynamic field conservationists, biologists and researchers to fill the vacancies for the year 2018 onward. Each vacancy has a specific duration based on the project, but is extendable (up to 5 years). Depending upon the candidate’s performance and available resources, we encourage candidates for register for higher studies.

Position: Research Biologist

Station: Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh

Qualifications:

Essential:

PhD in Wildlife Science, Conservation Biology or any other advance biological science

OR M. Sc. in Wildlife, Conservation, Environment Science or similar fields plus 5 years experience

OR M. V.Sc with 1 year experience in  captive or field conservation projects.

Desirable:

Minimum of 2 peer reviewed published papers in relevant field; or 1 publication as primary author

Experience of reptile handling and herpetological research

Experience in writing grant applications and report writing

Job responsibilities:

  1. Design, supervise and conduct aquatic reptiles related research projects
  2. Develop and implement research and conservation protocols for threatened reptiles of India while based at Laboratory for Aquatic Biology (LAB) at Kukrail Gharial and Turtle Rehabilitation Centre
  3. Assist with data collection, collation and analysis from various project and work with other researchers toward advancing reptile conservation science.
  4. Writing scientific project proposals, reports and peer reviewed publications.

Compensation: Rs. 36,000-38,000 (all inclusive) + approved monthly field expenses

Position: Assistant Project Officer

Station: National Chambal Sanctuary, Etawah/ Morena

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • M.Sc. in Wildlife, Conservation, Environmental or any other relevant biological science.

Desirable:

Previous experience in reptile handling, rescue and  herpetological research

Strong communication skills

Job responsibilities:

  1. Assist with endangered turtle nest protection, monitoring, rescue and outreach activities
  2. Active participation in the supervision, upkeep and running of turtle conservation facilities
  3. Commit time and effort to various aspects of projects being run in the Chambal region such as supervision, travel, logistics, data collection and data analysis
  4. Submit monthly reports to program office and partners

Job requirements:

  • Candidate must be physically fit and willing to live at the field station/s in basic conditions for a majority of their time
  • Candidates must be prepared to work in harsh field conditions for extensive periods of time
  • Position is based at the Chambal field station but candidate may be required to travel to other cities and field project sites across India

Additional information:

  • Male candidates are preferable though all candidates are welcome to apply

Compensation: Rs. 18,000-20,000 (all inclusive) + field accommodation + approved monthly field expenses.

Position: Assistant Project Officer

Station: Nature Discovery Centre,  Bishwanath, Assam

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • M.Sc. in Wildlife, Conservation Science or Biological Sciences

Desirable:

Previous experience in reptile handling and herpetological research

Knowledge of Nagamese/ Assamese language

Job responsibilities:

  1. Assist with conservation breeding efforts at selected Zoos in North-east India
  2. Assist in capacity building of Zoo keepers for reptile husbandry
  3. Extensive surveys (primarily on foot) for species and habitats in Nagaland and Assam
  4. Assist with outreach activities at Nature Discovery Centre, Assam.

    Job requirements:

  • Candidate must be physically fit and able to walk long distances for an extended period of time, carrying full camping gear
  • Candidate must be prepared to, on occasion, spend the night in the field during on-foot surveys

Compensation: Rs. 18,000-20,000 (all inclusive) + modest field accommodation + Approved monthly field expenses.

Position: Project Coordinator

Station: Eastern Uttar Pradesh

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Master Degree in any disciple + 3 years of experience in handling a large scale project related with environment, community outreach or education, rural development or wildlife conservation

Desirable:

Previous knowledge of running an community outreach centre

Strong communication knowledge in Hindi and English

Job responsibilities:

  1. Supervise the construction and maintenance of a education and conservation facility
  2. Develop and implement community outreach and conservation projects in consultation with experts
  3. Lead and managed a team of field researchers and educators
  1. Liaise with government and non-government organisation and prepare and submit technical reports

 Compensation: Rs. 28,000-30,000 (all inclusive) + Approved monthly field expenses.

Position: Project Officer (Administration)

Station: Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Graduate and degree/ diploma as company secretary, management, certified accountant or administrator

Preferable:

Previous experience in working with a Non-Profit organisation or large scale program

Strong knowledge of  Tally or accounting

Good command on english language and MS office

Job responsibilities:

  1. Assist with program related compliances (UC etc) with various government agencies
  2. Prepare budgets/ financial statements and expense reports including the prepration and submission of bills and vouchers project offices
  3. Procure quotations and bills and assist office manager/ Admin in in executing necessary secretarial work
  4. Maintain the records of personnels, equipments and other soft resources (reports etc).

Job Requirements:

Though this is a office based job but may require some travelling to various project sites (25 percent)

Compensation: Rs. 23,000-25,000 (all inclusive)

Station: Eastern Uttar Pradesh

Qualifications:

  • M.Sc. or MA in Environmental Science,  Education, Sociology or any other equivalent degree

Desirable:

Previous experience in assisting in leading a conservation themed education project

Strong communication skills in Hindi and English

Job responsibilities:

  1. Organize regular education and outreach campaigns
  2. Liaise with education institutions and participatory social organizations
  3. Research, design and develop quality education tools and materials (panels, exhibits etc)
  4. participate in conservation programs alongside
  5. Develop periodic reports

Job requirements:

  • Good organisational skills and comfortable with working in a team
  • Experienced with working with children from a range of age groups from various socio-economic backgrounds
  • Ability to build and maintain a strong network of contacts across various organizations and individuals

Compensation: Rs. 23,000-25,000 (all inclusive)
