Openings for Turtle Project personnel

Centre for Wildlife Studies, with support from Turtle Survival Alliance (TSA) implements Indian Turtle Conservation Program, which further conducts several long term turtle conservation projects along five turtle priority areas across India since 2004.


We invite applications from dynamic field conservationists to fill the vacancy for the year 2017/18. These vacancies are primarily for one year from date of joining but extendable (up to 5 years) depending upon the candidate’s performance and available resources.


Vacancy Code: 2017/1

Position: Veterinary Officer

Station: Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh



M.VSc or Equivalent degree and certificate for veterinary practice or B.VSc plus 5 years work experience


One year relevant experience working in a conservation set-up (Zoo/ wildlife rehabilitation center etc.)

Job responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  1. Managing Laboratory for Aquatic Biology at Kukrail Gharial and Turtle Centre in Lucknow
  2. Providing veterinary support to field rescue operations
  3. Providing husbandry support to captive conservation centers across India
  4. Designing and providing training to veterinarians, frontline forest staff, researchers, students
  5. Writing grants and reports

Compensation: Rs. 38000-40,000/ month all-inclusive + approved field expenses


Vacancy Code: 2017/2

Position: Project Scientist

Station: Nature Discovery Centre, Biswanath, Assam



M.Sc in Wildlife Science/ Conservation Biology/ Biological Science (55 percent) + 3 years field experience with 3 peer reviewed research papers in reputed journals

or Ph.D in Wildlife Science/ Conservation Biology/ Biological Science with proven track record of research work indicated by publications.


Knowledge of reptile handling

Job responsibilities:

  1. Conducting field work
  2. Leading field study design and data analysis
  3. Mentoring/ Assisting with peer reviewed publications
  4. Writing scientific project proposals and reports.

Compensation: Rs. 34, 000-36, 000/ month all-inclusive +approved field expenses


Vacancy Code: 2017/3

Position: Project Coordinator (Community Outreach)

Station: Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh



Master degree in relevant subject + 4 years experience working with similar large scale outreach projects or Interpretations

or Ph.D in relevant subject with indicated track record with publications or projects completed


Knowledge of Wildlife Conservation issues and good knowledge of computer softwares

Job responsibilities:

  1. Oversee and lead the operations of community outreach centers including Interpretations
  2. Design and coordinate education, outreach and training programmes and oversee their implementation.
  3. Coordinate organization’s website and social media pages
  4. Coordinating trainings, seminars, workshops
  5. Writing grants and reports

Compensation: Rs. 34, 000-36, 000/ month all-inclusive +approved field expenses


Vacancy Code: 2017/4

Position: Assistant Project Officer (Junior Project Fellow)

Station: Turtle Survival Centre, Chambal, Etawah, Uttar Pradesh

Qualification: M.Sc in Wildlife or Conservation Science (55 percent)

Job responsibilities:

  1. Assist with turtle nest protection and head starting
  2. Assist with sampling tagged turtles
  3. Assist with implementation of education and outreach programmes
  4. Reporting and Liasioning with Forest Department and visitors

Compensation: Rs. 16, 000-18, 000/ month all-inclusive +approved field expenses



General Requirements:

  1. All positions require extensive travelling along and among various project sites for conservation, research, rescue and outreach projects.
  2. Field sites/stations provide modest transit accommodation/hostel but candidates are encouraged to live outside as appropriate.
